Trading Underwriter – East Anglia Region

Are you an experienced underwriter who thrives on building strong broker relationships and delivering exceptional customer service? We're looking for a motivated professional to join our team and play a key role in developing our East Anglia region.
About the Role
In this varied and rewarding position, you'll review, trade, and invite renewals across our product range, ensuring every case is handled within agreed service levels and aligned with our underwriting appetite and strategy. You'll take ownership of broker relationships, manage large renewal cases (£5,000+), and act as a trusted point of referral for Underwriting Assistants — supporting their development and training along the way.
Key Responsibilities
Review, trade, and invite renewals for all products within the underwriting appetite and strategy, adhering to agreed SLAs.
Handle renewal queries, mid-term adjustments, and cancellations for your brokers and clients.
Work collaboratively with your team to ensure all work is completed within SLAs while maintaining strong broker relationships through excellent customer service.
Answer phone calls in a professional and friendly manner, developing and maintaining strong relationships with both external and internal customers.
Manage large cases for renewals of £5,000 and above.
Act as a referral point for Underwriting Assistants, supporting their development and training where appropriate.
Operate in line with your Underwriting Licence, using the Underwriting Guide and the support of senior colleagues to ensure a collaborative approach.
Take the initiative to improve work processes and contribute to broader corporate goals.
Ensure customer outcomes are delivered in a compliant manner, in line with the principles of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF).
What We're Looking For
Proven underwriting experience, ideally within commercial insurance.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a customer-first mindset.
The ability to manage your own workload, meet SLAs, and prioritise effectively.
A collaborative team player who can also mentor and support more junior colleagues.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
A solid understanding of TCF principles and compliant customer outcomes.
