Senior Development Underwriter – Commercial Lines
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid) Salary: Competitive + Benefits Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity
We are delighted to be working exclusively with a well-established and highly respected commercial lines insurer with a strong European presence. Our client is a market leader in delivering specialist commercial insurance solutions to businesses across the UK and Europe, and due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Development Underwriter to join their Glasgow-based team.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a driven and technically strong underwriter to take on a senior position within a dynamic and growing underwriting function. You will be responsible for managing and developing a profitable commercial portfolio whilst playing a central role in broker engagement and new business development across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite a portfolio of commercial risks within agreed authority levels, applying sound technical and pricing judgement
- Proactively develop and manage broker relationships to drive new business and improve retention
- Identify growth opportunities in line with the business's strategic appetite
- Collaborate with colleagues across underwriting, claims, actuarial, and distribution
- Mentor and support junior members of the underwriting team
- Monitor portfolio performance and use data-driven insight to inform decisions
- Attend broker meetings and market events across Scotland and the wider UK
About You
Essential:
- Substantial commercial lines underwriting experience within a recognised insurer or Lloyd's market
- Proven track record of managing and growing a profitable book of business
- Strong broker relationship management and new business development skills
- Technically sound with excellent commercial awareness
- ACII qualified or working towards
Desirable:
- Experience across multiple commercial lines (e.g. Property, Casualty, Liability, Financial Lines)
- Exposure to mid-market or large corporate risks
- Knowledge of European insurance markets
