Job title: Marine Assistant Underwriter

PURPOSE OF ROLE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Marine Assistant Underwriter to join a growing marine (re)insurance business based in London. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in marine underwriting, supporting the underwriting team in the profitable growth and management of a marine portfolio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support senior underwriters in the assessment, pricing, and placement of marine risks
- Assist in the preparation of quotations, policy documentation, and renewal terms
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients
- Monitor market trends and contribute to the development of underwriting strategy
DAY-TO-DAY
- Reviewing submissions and gathering information required for risk assessment
- Liaising with brokers to negotiate terms and conditions
- Processing renewals, endorsements, and new business in line with underwriting guidelines
- Working closely with claims, actuarial, and compliance teams as needed
- Keeping up to date with developments in the marine insurance market
EXPERIENCE
- Some experience within marine insurance or underwriting is preferred, though candidates from a broader insurance background will also be considered
- Familiarity with marine hull, cargo, or liability classes would be advantageous
- Experience working within a Lloyd's or London Market environment is a plus
SKILLS
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- A proactive, team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with underwriting systems is beneficial
