Job title: Sales Director
Salary: £120,000 plus annual bonus and car allowance
Location: Midlands / North (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days office-based)
PURPOSE OF ROLE
Our client, a well-established and acquisitive insurance broking group, is looking for a Sale’s Director to lead their sales function across the Midlands and North region. This is a high-profile senior leadership appointment, reporting to the MD of Sales, within a business where the sales function sits at the heart of the UK growth strategy responsible for securing new business, strengthening client relationships and maximising client value.
This is a genuine people-leadership role rather than a pure individual contributor position. You will lead through others, creating a high-performance culture where expectations are clear, accountability is strong and colleagues are empowered to achieve their potential. Operating in a fast-paced, evolving and acquisitive environment, you will balance strategic leadership with operational oversight driving commercial performance, supporting change, integrating newly acquired businesses and ensuring your teams are equipped to deliver sustainable growth and excellent client outcomes. KEY AREAS
- Leading People & Building Capability – leading, coaching and developing sales leaders and their teams, building succession and a strong leadership pipeline
- Commercial Performance – owning sustainable, profitable revenue growth across the region through new business, retention, cross-sell and referrals
- Sales Discipline – embedding rigour around activity, pipeline management, forecasting and account planning
- Driving Improvement – using data and market insight to raise sales effectiveness and embed consistent best practice
- Collaboration & Governance – partnering across the wider business and ensuring all activity meets regulatory and Consumer Duty standards
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide clear leadership, direction and accountability across the regional sales function
- Lead, coach and develop Sales Team Leaders, Account Directors and Account Executives to maximise individual and team performance
- Deliver sustainable and profitable revenue growth across the region
- Drive strong performance in new business acquisition, client retention, cross-selling and internal referral generation
- Build capability across the sales population through development, succession planning and talent management
- Ensure consistent execution of account planning and growth strategies across key client relationships
- Ensure all activity is aligned with governance standards, Consumer Duty obligations and regulatory requirements
DAY-TO-DAY
- Monitoring performance against agreed targets and taking action to address risks and opportunities
- Creating an inclusive, engaged and collaborative environment where success is measured and recognised
- Using performance data, market insight and MI to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement
- Embedding best practice and consistent ways of working across the sales function
- Supporting the implementation of new propositions, growth initiatives and strategic priorities
- Working closely with broking operations, propositions and specialist teams to deliver joined-up client outcomes
- Acting as a senior ambassador for the business with clients, insurers and key stakeholders
- Leading teams through growth, change and business integration activity, keeping them focused and aligned
EXPERIENCE
- Significant leadership experience within a sales environment in the insurance sector
- Proven track record of delivering sustainable revenue growth through high-performing teams
- Experience leading, coaching and developing sales professionals across multiple locations or regions
- Demonstrable experience building performance cultures with clear accountability and high standards
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate business objectives into tangible results
- Desirable: experience at Sales Director or equivalent level, ACII (or working towards), a strong understanding of Consumer Duty, and exposure to acquisitions, integration or organisational change programmes
